3. Quotes and pricing
All prices include GST.
Hourly rate. $159.50 per hour for two movers and a 4.5-tonne truck. Office and commercial work is $181.50 per hour. A two-hour minimum applies, after which time is billed in 15-minute blocks. When the clock starts and stops. Charging begins when we arrive at the pickup address and ends when the job is complete at the final address.
Fixed prices: $599 for a studio or one-bedroom and $849 for a two-bedroom, travel included. Fixed prices are available only on weekday moves within 25km of our base, for a single truckload, where the home is not heavily furnished. Bed disassembly and reassembly is not included in a fixed price and is charged separately. If a job does not meet these conditions we will quote it hourly or individually.
Single items: From $220, with no two-hour minimum. Final price depends on the item, distance and access.
Estimates: Any price that is not expressly stated as a fixed price is an estimate based on the information you give us. Estimates are not a cap on the final charge.
Loadings: Weekends attract a 15% loading on labour. Queensland public holidays attract a 30% loading, and fixed prices are not available on public holidays. Same-day bookings attract an additional $88.
4. Travel fee
A single travel fee applies to every job, charged on distance from our Jamboree Heights base. It covers travel, fuel and setup time. All prices are GST included.
- 0–25km: $88
- 25–50km: $137.50
- 50–75km: $181.50
- Over 75km: quoted individually
The travel fee is not refundable once the job has commenced.
5. Additional charges
Your price may increase beyond the quote where:
- Access is more difficult than described — stairs, long carries, no lift, restricted parking
- Items are heavier, larger or more numerous than described
- Items that were not listed are added on the day
- The job is delayed by something outside our control
Where a fixed price was given and the job differs materially from what was described, we may revert to the hourly rate. We will tell you before we do.
6. Stairs and access fees
The first 20 steps at each address are free. Beyond that, stairs are charged at $25 per flight, where a flight means 12 steps or a landing.
We need at least 3.2 metres of clearance to take the truck into a basement or loading dock. Where clearance is lower we carry from street level, which takes longer and is charged accordingly.
Additional fees may apply for long carries or complex access.
7. Heavy and awkward items
Items over 100kg — pianos, pool tables, safes, large gym equipment — are priced individually and must be disclosed before booking.
We may refuse to move any item where doing so would be unsafe for our crew, your property or the item itself.
8. Load size
Our truck holds approximately 23m³ with a legal payload of roughly one tonne.
No extra load fees. On hourly moves where both addresses are within 25km of our Jamboree Heights base, there is no extra charge per load. If your move needs more than one truckload, the extra trips are charged only as time at the hourly rate. This does not apply to fixed-price moves.
For other jobs that exceed a single load, we will either arrange a second trip at an agreed price or, on longer-distance work, refer you to a carrier better suited to the job.
9. Deposits
A $100 deposit is required to secure every booking. A booking is not confirmed until the deposit is received, and dates are not held without it.
The deposit is deducted from your final invoice. You can move it to another date free of charge with at least 48 hours' notice, subject to availability. It is refunded in full if you cancel with at least 48 hours' notice before the booked start time, and is non-refundable if you cancel within 48 hours of the booked start time.
10. Payment
Hourly moves: full payment is due on completion of the job.
Fixed-price moves: the balance is due before the last item is unloaded at the delivery address.
We accept bank transfer or PayID (to our ABN, 21 479 332 545).
Unpaid invoices may be referred for recovery, and reasonable recovery costs may be added to the amount owing.
11. Cancellations and rescheduling
We ask for at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule.
Cancellation within 48 hours results in loss of the deposit. Cancellation on the day of the move, or being unable to give us access at the agreed time, is charged at the full travel fee plus the two-hour minimum.
12. Access, delays and what you need to do
You are responsible for providing clear, safe and lawful access at both addresses, including booking the lift where one is required and arranging parking for the truck.
We are not responsible for delays caused by traffic, weather, access problems, unbooked lifts, or you not being ready when we arrive. Time lost to any of these is chargeable.
13. Insurance
We carry $10 million public liability insurance with Allianz.
We also hold goods in transit insurance with National Transport Insurance (policy 67139641), covering removal work to a limit of $100,000. Cover is subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions of the policy, and not every kind of loss or damage is covered. Certificates of currency are available on request.
Goods in transit cover does not replace your own contents or household insurance. We strongly recommend you arrange your own cover for high-value, fragile or irreplaceable items for any move.
14. Items we will not transport
- Hazardous or flammable materials, including gas bottles and fuel
- Illegal items
- Perishable food, unless agreed in advance
- Live animals
- Cash, jewellery, documents and other valuables, which you should carry yourself
15. Damage and liability
We take all reasonable care with your belongings. Subject to clause 16, we are not liable for:
- Pre-existing damage or wear
- Items poorly packed or packed by you
- Items not disclosed, or described inaccurately
- Damage to flat-pack or particle-board furniture that occurs through normal handling, given its construction
- Damage arising from access conditions you asked us to work with after we raised a concern
Please point out any damage to the crew on the day where possible. If you find damage later, let us know in writing with photos as soon as possible, ideally within 7 days of the move. This does not limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (clause 16).
16. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes those rights. Where we are entitled to limit our liability, we limit it to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having it resupplied.
17. Refusal of service
We may refuse to start, or stop work partway, where conditions are unsafe, where the job differs significantly from what was described, or where our crew is subjected to abuse, harassment or threatening behaviour. Work already performed remains payable.
18. Safety
Our crew follows workplace health and safety procedures at all times. We may decline to carry out any task we assess as unsafe.
19. Privacy
We collect your details only to quote, book and complete your job. Our privacy policy is at smallandtallremovals.com.au/privacy-policy/
20. Agreement and governing law
